Seasons Of Life

If you ask the average Minnesotan why they live here? Within their top 10 reasons one will inevitably be, “Because it has all the seasons.”

Strange that the thing that draws us to this place also causes the most angst. Over the past month I have heard, more times than I can count, “Why is it snowing again? It’s supposed to be Spring.”  And these came mostly from adults and not my children.

We love to experience  different seasons of the year and even the different seasons of life. The thing we don’t like are the transition parts in between especially if that time period is prolonged. It almost makes us feel uncertain that the full change will truly take place.

Over the past couple of years I have taken note that this rings true in all areas of life.

Back To School……….Distant, In Person, Hybread, Mask, No Mask

Parenting……………...Discipline, Figuring It Out, New Problem

Homeschooling………Deer In Headlights, Make A Plan, Make A New Plan, Find Out What                                                            …………………………Works With One Kid, The Next Kid Is Completely Different

Foster Care…………...Placement, Visits On, Visits Off, Permanency, Reunification

Buying A Home ………Rejection, Negotiations, Inspections

Selling A Home………..Negotiations, Inspections, Cancellations, Appraisals

Here is my point, we know we want to move towards the new season, called to it even. We know it is the right thing for us. But sometimes the old season seems to hold on to us. Delaying the change to fully come. The comfort of the past season seems easier and why not just give up on moving forward. Maybe it was a dumb idea. Maybe it wasn’t meant to be. Maybe I heard wrong.

Take heart the new season will in fact come. When has it not? And the hidden secret in the journey is that the hardship between the seasons is what causes the growth to come forth and will bring about the flowers, fruit, the harvest.

Don’t give up. Keep pressing on. Hard things make us grow. It will be worth it, I promise.

And remember…..

It is said that one thing you can always count on is change.

A great book to read with your family.
